Yanis, 5, killed for wetting the bed: stepfather sentenced to 25 years
Julien Masson, 33, and her partner Emilie Inglard, 26, were tried this week before the Court for the death of Yanis, the son of Emilie.
Yanis, 5, was found dead on the night of February 5 to 6, 2017 near a canal in France.
His stepfather had punished him because he had wet the bed. He had made him run outside, in the middle of the night, wearing only underpants and socks. He was following him behind with his bicycle. It was 5 degrees outside.
The boy had been forced to run for several kilometers along the La Lys canal and had fallen at least twice.
The autopsy performed revealed that the child had died from a head trauma.
“This death would be consecutive to several impacts which would be blows from a torch. Under the violence, the torch would have broken” explained the prosecutor.
Strangulation and gagging marks and signs of submersion in the canal were noted. Other traces of blows were older.
The stepfather was found guilty of murder and regular violence and was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison.
The 26-year-old mother received four years in prison, two of which were suspended for failing to prevent the murder.
