Lisa Montgomery, who had disembowelled a pregnant woman alive, was executed
Lisa Montgomery was sentenced to death in 2007 in the United States for the heinous murder of a pregnant woman.
On December 16, 2004, she visited the home of Bobbie Jo Stinnett, a 23-year-old pregnant woman, to purchase a rat terrier. Lisa had grabbed a knife and sliced Bobbie’s belly while she was alive to steal her baby, before strangling her to death with a rope. The baby, a girl, survived and Montgomery had made believe it was her when she had her tubes tied in the 90s. She had previously faked her pregnancy. The young girl, now 16, lives with her father.
After final appeals filed by the convict’s lawyers, Lisa Montgomery, 52, was executed overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday at the federal penitentiary in Terre-Haute, Indiana.
It had been 6 years since a woman had been executed in the United States. Kelly Gissendaner was executed in 2015 by lethal injection for organizing the assassination of her husband with her lover in 1997.
